The current Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Vice President (VP) liaison for Ming Chuan University, Dr. Connie Clifton, visited Ming Chuan’s Taipei campus and Jihe Location from October 3~5, 2023 for a Self-study Preparation Visit (SSPV). The purpose of the SSPV is to follow-up on the Self-Study Design Report presented by the university to MSCHE, and to promote awareness of the U.S. accreditation mechanism, as well as to provide professional consultation during the institution’s self-study process. Ming Chuan’s Self-study Design Report was submitted to MSCHE in March 2023. Since then, the content and planning illustrated in the report has received kudos from Dr. Clifton and the former MSCHE VP responsible for MCU liaison affairs, Dr. Kushnood Haq.
Dr. Clifton’s October visit comprised meetings with President Lee, Hsuan-Shi and representatives of the MCU Board of Directors, followed by sessions with the MSCHE Re-accreditation Steering Committee, as well as groups of faculty, staff and student representatives. Through this SSPV, it is hoped that all constituencies will become more aware of the accreditation process and that every member of the Ming Chuan family will participate in it, as inclusiveness is a very important factor in successful Self-study. Chancellor Lee noted, “I expect that this SSPV, accompanied by the joint efforts of the entire institution’s faculty, staff and students, will fire us up to attain yet another peak for MCU on the overseas accreditation journey. We look forward to earning yet another re-accreditation in 2025.
Since becoming the first US-accredited university in Asia in 2010, Ming Chuan has never rested on its laurels. Rather, the institution has continued to work diligently and obtained a 10-year re-accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in 2016. Since then, accreditation-related affairs have continued to move forward. In fall of 2022, Chancellor Chuan Lee led the way into the preparatory period for the third round of MSCHE accreditation by appointing faculty administrators to participate in the on-line Self-Study Institute. By the beginning of 2023, the MSCHE Re-accreditation Steering Committee and seven (7) Working Groups were established. Members appointed from administrative and academic units across the university to lead and participate in this important effort.
